About the Project
The Village of Pemberton (VOP) and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) have each received funding through the Province of British Columbia’s Water Meter Pilot Project to support the installation of water meters on all residential, commercial, and industrial services connected to the Pemberton water system.
Announced on May 6, 2025, the program awarded $4.75 million to the Village of Pemberton and $343,815 to the SLRD. While each organization holds a separate funding agreement with the Province, both are working together to plan and deliver the project.
This initiative supports the Village’s strategic priority to Protect Our Environment by advancing water conservation, preserving natural assets, and supporting responsible infrastructure investment. By the end of 2026, nearly all homes and businesses connected to the Pemberton water system will have a water meter installed.
The pilot project applies to all properties (residential, commercial, and industrial) connected to the Pemberton water system, including those in the SLRD’s Pemberton North Water Service Area, which receives water through a bulk supply agreement with the Village. Neptune Technology Group has been contracted by the Village to install the water meter at your property.
Universal water metering is an important step toward ensuring the long-term sustainability and resilience of the Pemberton water system. The data collected will help both the Village and the SLRD:
- Detect leaks early and reduce water loss
- Understand how water is used throughout the system
- Support responsible planning and infrastructure investment
Improve efficiency and service reliability
Each water meter will be equipped with advanced metering technology, enabling near real-time monitoring by both the Village and property owners. This technology supports leak detection, accurate consumption tracking, and improved system management, helping to safeguard a vital shared resource.
When installation begins, residents and businesses will receive a notification with details on how to book an appointment. Each installation will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes, during which time water service will be temporarily shut off.
There is no charge for the meter or installation. This project will not result in immediate changes to how water is billed. Data collected through the meters will support the Province’s six-year study on water use and conservation, guiding future planning and investment decisions.
